Interact-Bio Project ( starting in 2022), government procurement in cities in China

Impact assessment

For the future there are plans to provide innovative technologies (e.g. remote sensing data (satellite and drone imagery) and technologies) as tools for monitoring urban thermal conditions for public administration and for urban planning policies and as tools to assess impacts of the implemented NBS.

Co-production

The novel governance method called co-production was very successfully implemented for NBS pilot, which includes a wide range of actors (researchers, students, scholars, municipality workers etc.). It was an excellent experience, which will be applied for the next cases as it supported to increase the level of local environmental quality and public awareness of nature.

Financing and business models

There is no specific program or a common strategy developed in the region yet. Sustainable "green" activities are expected to be funded mainly the international sources, such as EBRD, Green Climate Fund, Awesome Foundation, etc. However, some small local funds are also available. So for the further small NBS activities there are preliminary agreements in Armenia with local charity funds (e.g. Eurasia Public Charity Organization) to continue the NBS development program with kindergartens, with a great hope state local funding from Municipalities to join as well.

Governance

Governance rests on the recognition that nature-based solutions are better developed when people and organizations collaborate. The institute of Governance in the region is at a very early stage of development. However, the pilot case for kindergartens in Armenia shows that it is possible to bring together Local Authorities, Public Charity organization, research organization and just citizens to work together and put efforts for the maintenance of NBS and its management. Nevertheless, there is still no joint strategy on this point yet.
